High-ranking officials from Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, and South Sudan are meeting in Nairobi on 14 August to validate the second edition of the HoAI Regional Trade Facilitation Roadmap. Developed through national consultations with public institutions and private-sector stakeholders, the roadmap takes a bottom-up approach, identifying practical challenges at national level and building regional solutions around them. It focuses on improving cross-border trade, transport connectivity, customs and regulatory processes, and economic cooperation across the Horn of Africa.

The roadmap reflects the HoAI’s broader goal of advancing practical regional integration by addressing challenges that extend beyond national borders. Following the Nairobi validation meeting, it is expected to be endorsed by the five countries’ trade ministers at a meeting in Addis Ababa on 3 September. By bringing countries together to address shared trade and connectivity challenges, the roadmap aims to create a more connected regional trading system and turn national infrastructure and economic assets into shared opportunities.
