On 29 September 2026, HoAI Country Members and Development Partners undertook a field visit to a DRIVE-supported livestock genetics centre in Kajiado County, Kenya, as part of the HoAI engagement on the Development Partners’ Portfolio.

The De-risking, Inclusion and Value Enhancement of Pastoral Economies (DRIVE) Project is a World Bank supported regional initiative within the HoAI Development Partners’ Portfolio.
The visit provided participants with an opportunity to observe how private sector investment and innovative livestock services including livestock breeding, genetic improvement and reproductive technologies can support pastoralists to improve livestock productivity and quality, strengthen resilience to climate and market shocks, and access higher value markets.

The visit highlighted the practical regional relevance of DRIVE within the HoAI framework demonstrating how investments in livestock systems, private sector participation and stronger value chains can contribute to more resilient, connected and economically integrated pastoral communities across the Horn of Africa.
