The workshop brought together a broad range of national and regional stakeholders. Participants included delegations from Ethiopia, Somalia, and Kenya, representatives of the reinsurer ZEP-RE, World Bank experts, and senior officials from various public and private institutions involved in the modernization of the livestock value chain.

The presence of these partners underscored the regional dimension of the DRIVE Project and reflected a shared commitment to strengthening cooperation across the Horn of Africa.

Discussions focused on reviewing project progress, aligning technical approaches among participating countries, and strengthening the Investment Facility. This facility is a core component of the project and is built on an innovative de-risking mechanism aimed at improving access to finance for livestock sector entrepreneurs.

Each regional delegation presented updates on project implementation in their respective countries. These presentations highlighted achievements to date, challenges encountered, and areas for improvement to enhance the effectiveness of interventions and ensure stronger regional coordination.

The workshop emphasized the importance of deeper collaboration to reinforce the resilience of pastoral communities in the face of climate risks, develop financing solutions adapted to the sector’s structural vulnerabilities, and support innovative economic initiatives led by local actors.

In closing, national institutions and regional partners reaffirmed their shared commitment to sustaining and expanding ongoing efforts to modernize the livestock sector, provide long-term support to rural communities, and contribute meaningfully to economic development across the region.
